Below is latest provision of the CARES Act:
Under the Family First Coronavirus Response Act (FFCRA), $1 billion has been made available through the CARES Act Provider Relief Fund to specifically reimburse providers for coronavirus testing of the uninsured. This has been put in place to assist practices to recoup payments for those uninsured.
The Provider Relief Fund clearly identified in its terms and conditions that in order to keep and use these immediate stimulus funds as a condition, providers are obligated to abstain from "balance billing" any patient for COVID-related treatment. As announced in early April, a portion of the $100 billion Provider Relief Fund will be used to reimburse healthcare providers, at Medicare rates, for COVID-related treatment of the uninsured, subject to available funding. Steps will involve: enrolling as a provider participant, checking patient eligibility, submitting patient information, submitting claims, and receiving payment via direct deposit.
