On Sunday, March 22, 2020, CMS announced provisions intended to ease the reporting burden for Merit-based Incentive Payment System (MIPS) clinicians by extended the deadlines for quality reporting and applications for providers in value-based care programs. CMS has also updated the 2019 MIPS Extreme and Uncontrollable Circumstances Policy that will automatically identify eligible clinicians who have not submitted any MIPS data by the new deadline of April 30, 2020 and provide them with a neutral payment adjustment. Finally, CMS will not count data from January 1, 2020 through June 30, 2020 for the PY 2020 data submission.
